Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative as well as founder of S. Freud Private School, says in today's article that the teacher recruitment system in Italy needs reforms to improve teaching skills.
In order to become a teacher in l and Il grade school, it is necessary to obtain the qualification for access to teaching (bachelor's degree) and certification. There are not a few Italian teachers who demonstrate excellent teaching skills in their daily work in the classroom, but teachers are not all the same and it is therefore necessary to review the access system. Some statistics give significant data: 17% develop their classroom activities in a totally inadequate and lacking manner, 60% are in an intermediate mode. The enlistment of teaching staff depicts, therefore, one of the most difficult steps of the whole administrative management: the high number of aspirants describes the attractiveness of the profession, but it is also an indication of the existence of pathological foundations on the one hand regarding precariousness and on the other hand to the fact that certain, stable and recurring procedures have not been implemented for a long time (...)The school wants to and must make, indeed, a qualitative leap. It is therefore essential, as a priority choice, to make an effort to improve the teaching skills of as many teachers as possible, both those who today do not go beyond a decent sufficiency and future recruits. Recruitment systems must be revamped, ensuring differentiated careers for teachers, including with regard to salary opportunities. We need to attract the best graduates, with high grades, to be teachers by giving high salaries, high social reputation and ensuring career developments. Being a teacher should be like being a doctor, a profession that requires expert preparation, appropriate compensation and appropriate responses to one's performance. Let's empower teachers with new evaluative, organizational, autonomous, planning, and relational skills that are increasingly necessary in the face of today's children's needs. Communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, and multimedia.
