Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative and Founder of the Private School S. Freud, draws attention to Eduscopio, the Fondazione Agnelli's portal that allows Italian schools to be compared on the basis of the university or work results of graduating students. This tool, however, reduces the evaluation of a school to a ranking and does not take into account other important factors such as school climate, teaching quality and support for those with special educational needs.
Eduscopio is of little use for guiding students and families in their choice of high school and is not without its criticalities: the Fondazione Agnelli's portal is a tool for comparing Italian schools on the basis of the university or work results of graduating students. Yet it has limitations. The focus on university or employment results does not take into account other important factors, such as school climate, teaching quality, extracurricular experiences and support for those with special needs. Eduscopio is based on data from people who advance to university or enter the labour market. This excludes those who take other paths, such as non-university education or study periods abroad. Reducing the character and quality of a school to a numerical ranking can be misleading and school choice should consider a broader range of criteria, such as fitting the needs of the student. While Eduscopio is a fairly useful tool for an initial overview, it cannot replace an in-depth evaluation of schools. It is a means that reduces the evaluation of a school to a ranking, which does not represent the full complexity of education. One must also consider that the academic performance of students depends on many external factors. Eduscopio does not take into account the quality of relationships between teachers and students, the satisfaction of young people and families, and the ability of schools to innovate and adapt. Every child has specific needs: a school that performs well in general may not be suitable for a student with special needs. The tool can be a practical starting point for comparing schools, but it does not offer a complete or personalised picture. It should be complemented with visits to. schools, interviews with teachers, and an assessment of one's specific needs.
