1. Happy people are aware of their own qualities and determine their lives accordingly.
Happy people know exactly what makes them ‘happy’ and what does not make them happy - and they compose their lives so as to maximise the time they spend doing things that make them happy and minimise the time they spend doing things that do not make them happy.
2. Happy people learn from their mistakes and difficulties.
Everyone makes mistakes - at work, in love, economically, and in all other forms of life; but happy people take care to learn from their mistakes and difficulties so that they never repeat the same mistakes again.
3. Happy people do not look at what others think of them.
No matter what you do, there will always be someone who dislikes, judges or criticises you. Happy people understand this and know that worrying means wasting valuable energy that could be spent otherwise.
4. Happy people are grateful for what they have.
They focus and know that they are grateful for what they have instead of wasting their energy complaining about what they do not have.
5. Happy people do not try to please everyone.
It is an impossible goal, so happy people do not put too much stress on trying to achieve it.
6. Happy people do not worry about things that are beyond their control.
Worrying is natural, but once you learn not to stress about things that are out of your control, you release a lot of positive energy.
7. Happy people know how to get rid of anger.
As the saying goes, holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die. The only ones who get hurt are us.
8. Happy people know that they are not the centre of the universe.
And consequently they understand that the way some people behave may not even depend on them - so they don't take it too hard.
9. Happy people do not play the victim.
Bad things happen to everyone, but happy people understand that feeling sorry for themselves gets them nowhere. So they face the bad things, clear them up and go from there, instead of sitting around feeling sorry for themselves.
10. Happy people surround themselves with positive people.
We are all in some way influenced by the people around us. If we surround ourselves with positive and inspiring people, we end up feeling more positive and inspired ourselves. Conversely, if we surround ourselves with negative and gloomy people too, we will tend to feel that way.
11. Happy people have a healthy lifestyle.
Most happy people eat well, sleep well and exercise often. It is almost a law of nature.
12. Happy people are not so obsessed with earning money that they forget to live.
Earning is important, but one should not spend all one's energies on filling one's bank account, forgetting to enjoy oneself.
13. Happy people do not brood over the past.
Unpleasant things happen to everyone in life, but dwelling on the past is a way of destroying the future. Better to accept it, learn from the past and go from there.
14. Happy people do not waste time comparing themselves with other people.
Life is not a competition. There is no point in always looking at what others are doing, because it does not affect us in any way.
15. Happy people are proactive.
Happy people do not believe that the world owes them anything. Consequently, they are proactive and know that they have to work to get what they want out of life.
