Class Newspaper

THE PROJECT

CLASS NEWSPAPER:
The project of  “Class Newspaper ” brings into the Italian secondary schools some of the most important newspapers of Italy, so that they can become efficient instruments of a modern form of social studies  day by day.
This project was launched by the Monitoring Centre in September 2000 with the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and reached a position of leadership that promotes the reading of newspapers among young people and in the world of school.
It's a record from the point of view of quality and quantity by virtue of over 1.500.000 students who are taking part to this project- one of every three Italians-  thanks to a full offer towards the school world and structured in three points:

CLASS SESSION:
The teachers who have joined the project, have to spend one hour of lesson pro week at the reading of a newspaper: the first newspaper in Italy called "the leader of opinion" Il Corriere della Sera; important local newspapers, such as   Il Giorno, Il Resto del Carlino, La Nazione, l’Adige, L’Unione Sarda, Il Tempo, La Stampa, Gazzetta del Sud, Il Giornale di Vicenza, L’Arena, Brescia Oggi, Gazzetta di Parma, Il Gazzettino, the most important sports newspaper in Italy, La Gazzetta dello Sport and in upper classes, the main economic newspaper in Europe, Il Sole 24 Ore.

TRAINING:
The teachers responsible for the project have to take part to a precise educational activity promoted by the Monitoring Centre, based on influential scientific contribution and thought to allow them to introduce correctly the nespapers to the students.

In particular each teacher receives a publication edited by  ” La Nuova Italia Editrice”.

The Monitoring Center promotes also a Training Magazine (Giornale di Formazione) for all students involved in the project, an useful opportunity where teachers can compare their teaching experience and meet qualified lecturers.

To meet the needs of the teachers involved, we say that they are constantly supported by a new on line service of tutorial assistance at their full disposal for the whole lenght of the school term.

RESEARCH:
To make sure that all Italian newspapers could progress to meet the needs of young people, the Monitoring Centre asks each student how he is considering the current newspapers e how he would like to transform the modern ones. The results of the following enquiry, that permits a constant supervising of the project, are presented at the conference  “Crescere tra le righe” ( English translation: " Growing up between the lines")  every year
