CLASS III

PURPOSE.

To foster the acquisition of tools for direct and continuous comparison between one's own and another culture, developing in the young person an understanding and acceptance of the other.
To develop basic communicative competence that enables one to use language in a context-appropriate manner.

GOALS
Understand general oral/written messages and texts aimed at different uses, grasping the situation, topic or significant elements of discourse.
To grasp the overall meaning of short messages on topics of general interest, shows, sports events, etc.
Express oneself on general topics effectively and appropriately, appropriate to the context and situation, though not always formally correct.
Produce simple written texts of a functional and personal nature.

MAIN TOPICS COVERED
Introducing oneself and someone by talking about likes and dislikes.
Simulation dialogues to give and receive information about everyday aspects and facts.
Simple and clear description of a person, place or event.
Simple conversation over the telephone.
Simple correspondence via e-mail.
Simulation dialogues for ordering at a restaurant, bar etc.
Booking a hotel or event.
Physical and political geography of France.
Major French cities.
Characteristics of French culture (lifestyle, cuisine, fashion and celebrities).


CLASS IV

PURPOSE.
To foster the human, social and cultural formation of young people through contact with other realities in an intercultural education, leading to a redefinition of attitudes toward those different from oneself.
To develop the acquisition of communicative competence that enables the use of language in a context-appropriate manner.
Foster reflection on one's own language and culture through comparative analysis with Francophone language and culture.

GOALS
Understand written texts for different uses, grasping their meaning and purpose, knowing how to infer in a known context the meaning of elements not yet known.
Understand live and recorded oral texts, possibly authentic, related to personal communication (conversations, reservations, etc.).
Express oneself on general topics effectively and appropriately, appropriate to the context and situation, although not always formally correct.
Produce simple written texts of a functional, personal and imaginative nature, even with errors and interference from Italian, dialect or other languages, as long as comprehension is not impaired.

MAIN TOPICS COVERED
Simulations of telephone reservations.
Simulation of restaurant dialogues: menus and recipes.
Simulation of dialogues at the reception desk.
Simulated dialogues for giving and receiving information about the hotel and its location, facility and services.
Tourist correspondence, reservation question and answer (between private and Hotel, between Agency and Agency).
Tourism in France.
The "francophonie" and Francophone countries.
Insight into issues of comparison between Italian and Francophone realities.

CLASS V

PURPOSES.

The aims of the fifth-year French language course are to improve the communicative and intercultural competence acquired in the first two years of study. To foster an in-depth linguistic and cultural study specific to the French tourist business field involving the subjects of the course and the other languages studied in a systematic comparative relationship.

GOALS
Understand, comprehensively or analytically, depending on the situation, oral and written texts also related to the specific field of the address.
Sustain fluent conversations, functionally appropriate to the context and communication situation, including on tourism-related topics, establishing effective interpersonal relationships.
Transpose the meaning of oral texts from the foreign language into the mother tongue and vice versa with consecutive translation.
Produce written texts of a professional nature appropriate to the context and communication situation with a sufficient degree of coherence and cohesion.
Produce oral and written texts to describe conditions or manner of settlement of contracts with acceptable lexical accuracy.
Use the foreign language with adequate awareness of the meanings it conveys, grounding it in knowledge of the culture and civilization of the foreign country.
Compare different linguistic and cultural systems by grasping both their common elements and specific identities.

Aspects of tourist and historical-geographical interest related to the specific address will be covered such as:
elaboration of tourist itineraries;
presentation/description of places and environments of tourist and artistic interest;
handling letters and reservations on tourism topics;
personal curricula;
some types of tourism: green, gastronomic, artistic-cultural, spa;
l'ile de France;
Paris;
some foreign countries;
in-depth study of themes comparing Italian and foreign realities;
interdisciplinary connection topics.
