IED ISTITUTO EUROPEO DI DESIGN
IED-acronym for Istituto Europeo di Design-is the largest network of higher education in the creative field to have maintained a global outlook and a deeply Italian cultural matrix since 1966. Its educational experience has changed over time but continues to be based on a simple and effective model: the union of theory with practice and knowledge brought into the classroom by professionals from the world of work. Their students are taught to be one step ahead, in the present. IED is an inclusive, transdisciplinary school that uses design as a universal language for change. It boasts important partnerships with universities and academies and are members of major international academic networks such as, for example, Cumulus, Elia, WDO, just to mention a few.
CONTENTS
In general, the course will explain the methodologies for creating an effective presentation and making its content clear and easily memorized by the listener. The presentation is never ancillary but an integral part of a project and it can influence up to 40 percent of the perception of what is being told. The following training meeting will focus on the following macro-areas:
1 - Preparing content (Storytelling in presentations): How to choose the content to be included. What should they tell, how to organize them properly? What tool do I need to best present them?
2 - Where to start, i.e., the so-called FLOW of a presentation: It is not always necessary to start from the starting point. Many times it is better to hint at a short spoiler of the ending and tell how you got there later. In fact, a presentation is compared to a roller coaster, the roller coaster effect. Before starting, it is best to define the peaks of attention.
3 - Personal Presence in Presentation or Empathy Design: How much of my content needs to be objective or how far can one go with subjectivity and personal emotionality? How can the content create a connection with the audience?
4 - Technical rules of Publishing Design according to the following points:
- Basic rules of slide layout.
- Basic rules on color schemes and graphic elements
- Rules for cover construction
- Rules for table of contents and section separators
- Use of images and text within an image
- Use of lower elements of a slide
- Size and proportions of graphic elements within a slide
- Bulleted lists and keywords
- How and when to include sources and references
- How and when to include a video
- How to end a presentation
5 - Adjusting Duration and Presentation Time Marking Tools: How to make presentations short and effective while respecting the audience's time and avoiding unnecessary length. This last section will also explain strategies for getting final questions diverted to what you most want to talk about.
