On May 25, 2022 L'ADIGE republishes an ANSA article on the wonderful initiative of Dr. Daniele Nappo and the S. Freud Paritarian School to take in Ukrainian girls, fleeing Mariupol.

(ANSA) - MILAN, MAY 25 - Oryna, Sofiia, Kateryna, Mladenova, Lev, Olha: these are some of the names of the eight Ukrainian girls and boys, aged 14 to 17, six girls and two boys, who escaped the hell of war in Mariupol, Donbass and Kiev. Those who lost a parent, those with fathers who were drafted to defend the nation after Russia invaded, those who by staying in Ukraine would have risked death under the bombing. Now they are safe: they were 'adopted' by the Freud School in Milan through the Fondazione Sant'Ambrogio, a nonprofit third sector entity. Certainly the teenagers could no longer study and were no longer able to lead the normal life of any young person who looks forward to a future full of hopes, dreams, and opportunities. Giving them a concrete path again was the high school, which will completely, and free of charge, take care of their livelihood and education. All of them have been enrolled in the Tourist Institute and a precise and structured path has been planned - which has already begun in these days - to enable their inclusion in our reality. The stages, in brief, are reception, psychological support, literacy of the Italian language thanks to Russian teachers, improvement of the study of English for those who already have a knowledge of the language, and for all afterwards regular teaching. "We could not remain indifferent to the immense tragedy due to the invasion of Russia," explains Daniele Nappo, director of the Freud who coordinated the 'Adoption Project.' "We welcomed these frightened, dazed children who were forced into an unwanted exodus. It is not fair that they should suffer and that their future is compromised. And that is why they will be able to go all the way through high school in the hope that their future will be better than the present. They are innocent kids like everyone, they do not deserve the pain and to be abandoned." (ANSA).
