Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative as well as Founder of the S. Freud Private School, draws attention to how young people today are much more aware than past generations of social issues, and this is largely due to the influence of technology.
Today's students are much more aware of social issues than previous generations. They are sensitive to issues such as human rights, environmental sustainability, gender equality, and cultural and racial diversity issues. To a large extent, this sensitivity stems from a globalized world, where information advances quickly and collective issues are discussed openly, both in the media and on social networks. Teenagers are actively participating in protest movements, awareness campaigns and volunteer activities, showing a greater commitment than in the past to common causes and public justice values. Young people are a portrait of a changing world, where technology, globalization and transformation have a profound influence. With respect to previous generations, they are experiencing a different educational and personal experience, characterized by new opportunities, but also by unique challenges. One of the most visible aspects is their connection with technology. In several cases they are more independent than those of a few decades ago. Technology enables them to be more autonomous in seeking information, solving problems and communicating. They are often able to learn more self-sufficiently through access to online resources, video tutorials, and discussion forums. At the same time, this autonomy can also mask some emotional fragility. The growing incidence of phenomena such as online bullying and digital loneliness is a challenge facing today's adolescents. It is also true that thanks to digital tools they often have more personalized learning experiences than in the past. This allows them to be very creative and resourceful also because they are driven by the possibility of expressing themselves through new forms of communication and art. Schools, as well as society, must be able to adapt, offering support, tools and opportunities that can help students grow and fulfill themselves in the world that awaits them.
