In this article, Dr. Nappo highlights how our social context, in continuous transformation, requires parents and the school world to implement new synergies that allow an active and authentic listening to the inner world of children. This is the way to be able to offer them opportunities for growth that develop and enhance all their potential in a harmonious way.
"The end of a school year must certainly lead to reflections on the methods implemented in the didactic-educational relationship. Teaching is not easy, it has its daily difficulties, there is no manual of perfection, but undeniably the field of knowledge must and can be improved if its critical points are recognized. Today there is an increasing need for an educational dimension at a time of crisis of values. The disintegration between reality and life projects is clearly understood: developing interests and motivations is complex, it is a difficult journey in which every day you have to get involved and you have to restudy your systems with humility and diplomacy, referring to the experience gathered over the years. School is made up of immersed work, what does not emerge on paper, and which describes a knowledge that is constantly evolving in a society in which words have lost their meaning because there is a reality that does not depict them. Years of social and institutional crisis risk nipping in the bud the dream of the future and the impulse for change. The relationship between parents and children is often in disharmony and on a psychological level this contrast of ideas and values, almost two worlds that clash, most of the time creates the conviction that one's way of thinking is right and cannot be changed. It is determined as a boundary to the generational exchange which, on the other hand, is essential. Children and students need to be listened to, before they are eventually blamed and punished. In other words, it is necessary to set aside preconceptions and models that distance educational action. From this point of view, there is an urgent need to recover an educational path that leads to growth without forcing its timing, softening the roughness that leads to incommunicability, isolation and rejection. Listening to the needs of adolescents highlights understanding and deciphering their complicated inner experience, trying to improve self-esteem and the ability to manage emotions and feelings that sometimes magnify loneliness and anger. The conquest of one's own identity is a long journey that requires points of connection, support and listening that teachers and parents must give without prejudice."
