On December 31, 2021 the national newspaper "Il Giorno" publishes the usual Friday editorial by dr. Daniele Nappo, legal representative of the S. Freud School of Milan. The main theme of the reflection is the addiction to the internet, which now afflicts digital natives. In fact, children are victims of real diseases and hyperconnection disorders, such as the fear of being without connection to the alteration of the sleep-wake cycle due to the constant interaction on chats, up to, in the worst case scenario, social withdrawal. and to closure itself.
"Generation Z or the generation of Networks, of those born with smartphones, of those who make excessive use of the internet and of those who remain excessively connected to the various social networks are creating real diseases and hyperconnection syndromes: from fear of not having the web available, to be in chat all night, until the social retreat, those who are called hikikomori. They are real addictions that distance us from reality, that diverge, that facilitate ignoring and avoiding the other. It is necessary to put in place preventive actions to prevent this from happening and the school can do it. Unfortunately, very little is said about it, or it tends to be minimized, but they are real diseases related to anxiety, stress, depression. They are teenagers who have few emotions, few social relationships, who swap day for night. The School should and could build a dedicated space for in-depth study, where to explain to them that one must objectively learn to evaluate oneself, that one must not give importance only to perfect images that are too far from reality. Better to follow your ideals. Teachers can be points of reference to follow to live real life. We know how moderate the use of technology must be to support a healthy and balanced lifestyle, most internet users are online even before going to sleep and immediately after waking up, many young people also use the devices in bed and at the table. Most of them feel the addiction to the internet and this often creates family quarrels, because parents see their commitments at school or in sports activities and in real friendships. Teenagers imitate the various influencers, youtubers and bloggers who become a role model to follow through and through. Parents are called upon to educate their children using precise rules, but the school could create a bridge for help. We cannot allow technology to change lifestyles. Children must be helped especially in their most important development, namely adolescence, in order not to fall into low self-esteem. Not to get lost. "
