Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative as well as Founder of S. Freud Private School, draws attention to the change that has occurred in the role of the teacher. Today's teachers are professional figures who, while maintaining their fundamental educational function, face very different challenges than in the past. Their role has changed profoundly, influenced by social, technological and cultural transformations, and is now shaped as a combination of teaching, emotional and digital skills.
Today's teachers are professional figures who, while retaining their indispensable educational function, find themselves facing very different challenges than in the past. Their role has changed profoundly, influenced by social, technological and cultural evolutions, and is shaped as a mixture of teaching, emotional and computer skills. Teachers are no longer just those who transmit knowledge; they are perpetually evolving professionals who are constantly modernizing to meet the needs of a rapidly metamorphosing society. With the introduction of new technologies, for example, they are called upon to integrate digital tools into their lessons, preparing teaching for an increasingly connected world. The use of tablets, computers and online platforms is now an integral part of everyday school life. However, teachers are also capable of employing innovative methods such as flipped classrooms (students study at home and practice in the classroom) and customizing instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners. In addition to being experts in the subjects they explain, modern teachers are often also emotional mediators. A figure increasingly involved in managing interpersonal dynamics in the classroom and promoting inclusion, mutual respect, and students' psychological well-being. Many teachers face problems such as bullying, loneliness, and adolescents' family difficulties, trying to be a stable and concrete point of reference. Through interdisciplinary projects and classroom discussions, they try to get across the importance of being active and engaged citizens, able to face the challenges of the contemporary world with a positive and purposeful attitude. In the past, the teacher was seen as an authority figure, imparting knowledge from above. Today, however, he is more of a “facilitator” of the learning process who helps girls and boys discover their potential, develop curiosity and stimulate critical thinking.
