Dr. Nappo in his article highlights the need for the School to offer young students, especially after isolation due to Covid, authentic destinations for new experiences as opportunities for growth from different perspectives.
Traveling enhances the pleasure of living, loving life and is good for health: leaving helps adolescents gain well-being and broaden their minds. Students after the pandemic need to go far again, schools need to look at travel with confidence and optimism, young people need to be accustomed to seeking experiences again. Traveling today means, above all, searching for the time lost from isolation due to Covid. Visiting and exploring must, for every school, be a way and manner of getting to know and discover new corners of the world; it must be central to educational programming. "Authentic destinations for new experiences": this should be the motto in Class Councils and Commissions in charge of organizing places to see. Traveling for students means knowing how to live with themselves, it means growing self-esteem and seeking new horizons as an integral and qualifying part of educational offerings; communication, socialization, are moments of absolute knowledge and relationship. Schools must not hold back in the face of bureaucratic-administrative acts, but must be able to grasp the educational relevance and the ability of students to make themselves fully responsible and respectful of rules and conduct.
The educational value of the study trip, field trip or educational outing that you want to call it, is a challenge after the resilience that students have been able to demonstrate. We know that students take pleasure in learning while doing, when thinking can become action that builds opportunities to know how to deal with situations and experience even difficulties to get used to finding solutions and being able, again and again, to grasp every opportunity that a trip offers. Young people must be given the tools to establish themselves in daily life. Traveling is the best way to build this capacity because it provides opportunities, develops skills, encourages teamwork, helps operate with a positive mindset, and increases self-esteem by expanding everyone's potential. We need to think of activities during the trip that give the guarantee of leaving them with good memories that will last a lifetime: in short, put students in a position to smile at life once in a while.
