On November 26, 2021, the national newspaper "Il Giorno" published, on the page dedicated to the usual Friday appointment, the editorial by Dr. Daniele Nappo, legal representative of the S. Freud Charter School.
This week the reflection focuses on the importance of physical education hours to improve the development and cohesion of the class group. The sports science teacher, in fact, must think not to build a futile competition, but to develop a feeling of belonging to the group, enhancing the team and building activities among students. The children must all feel that they are being listened to and each one must be able to express his or her own singularity. Therefore, a positive push can really start from the lesson of Physical Education, which smoothes out the disagreements of the class group by bringing the pupils to greater cohesion.
“By Improving the cohesion and development of the class group even in the school environment it is possible to achieve greater performance even when you return to the desk. A team has a social purpose, team-building means carrying out a continuous activity where pupils learn to work together for a common goal by sharing knowledge to decide ways to be more effective. There is nothing more important in a class than doing teamwork. Building a cohesive union will bring benefits both in class coordination and in communication processes, which will inevitably lower conflicts and competition between students. In this way, the teacher will have produced a right dynamic atmosphere. Each student will be confronted with his strengths and weaknesses, the idea of being part of a team is essential to feel like a protagonist. Even if sport is competition, the teacher in the hours of physical activity must not aim to build a competition for its own sake, but must think about developing a feeling of belonging, because the goal is to include certainly not the opposite. It must be able to enhance, sometimes enhance, the qualities of the individual by increasing trust. Fun has a significant influence on the quality and result, so the hours of sport at school must create the right atmosphere to produce the pleasure of being together; on the playing field we must all be the same, there must be no separations or hierarchies, this will help today's students also in the dynamics of work tomorrow. Practicing physical activity has its obvious importance, but in the relationships between adolescents today it must become an excellent opportunity to define the important part of the quality of life. The teacher's goal is to make everyone feel important and everyone listened to. In two words, as mentioned, all the same. The modern school must not consider sport as it has happened up to now: a secondary discipline to which little time is dedicated, non-existent structures, inadequate changing rooms. Sport if done and practiced correctly is instead useful and has an important sense in multidisciplinarity. Culture, not just physical practice."
