On Friday 11 March 2022, Dr. Daniele Nappo, legal representative of the S. Freud Charter School, gives his contribution with an article in the national newspaper "Il Giorno" to underline and talk about what factors can contribute to the origin of a failure at school. In fact, school performance during adolescence is influenced by many factors, both of a personal and extra-personal nature, not to mention that it is an age in itself of great changes and transitions, which greatly weighs on the emotional condition of the student.
There are many factors that establish failure in school. He is good but does not apply: it is probably one of the most typical statements that parents hear from teachers, but the school performance in adolescence is influenced by many factors. Learning and emotions are also intimately connected from a neuro-scientific point of view: this relationship allows for greater flexibility and generalization of what is learned. In schools it should be taken into account that the emotional aspect of teenagers is closely linked to academic performance. Psychology is often questioned about the origins behind these lack of results. The question is asked by both parents and teachers who wonder where the errors lie in their teaching system. Adolescence is a fundamental period in the growth of the individual. One of the aspects that is analyzed to verify the development of an integrated identity is precisely the academic performance. The organization of the study material and the study method itself are fundamental openings, to proceed with logic, and not to trigger dispersive behaviors. It is very useful to set up a hierarchy, that is, grouping information into categories. Visualization associated with an image is also very useful: in fact, if you connect images during the study of new knowledge, the effectiveness of learning increases, because the visual and linguistic codes interact. It is the metacognitive work, today, the most used for all students who have study difficulties; a good method takes into consideration aspects of motivation to study. It has been found that those who study for themselves and try to correct themselves for personal satisfaction have better results. Concentration, choice of topics, self-assessment skills, test preparation strategies and metacognitive concreteness are therefore important. In communication between adolescent and adult it is essential that there is respect, with an appreciation and understanding of the changes and decisions that occur in young people. They should feel understood by adults, accepted even when they make mistakes. "
