On Friday 29 April 2022 the national newspaper "Il Giorno" publishes the reflections of the sociologist Mr.. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative of the S. Freud Charter School in Milan. The topic of the usual weekly editorial concerns the renovation and modernization of the school, so that it does not appear old or stale, managing to totally involve the student and making him the protagonist of his own educational path.
“In the last decade, rapid technological progress has profoundly changed the face of society and within this scenario, schools have also undergone considerable transformations. Today it is based on communication and relationship and it cannot but pass through mutual recognition; it follows that the school environment represents a strong engine of social connection, a daily vitality for over 8 million students and about 835 thousand teachers. Society entrusts the school with the task and function of promoting the development of culture, but not a stale and old knowledge, but a harmonious culture as a global growth of the person. The new teacher is able to train passionate young people, to encourage them and enhance their skills and identities so that girls and boys are protagonists. The need is for a study criterion in step with the times. Today's school is a community where useful skills are experimented, with evaluations that are increasingly more than appreciations and acknowledgments by virtue of contents that interest and involve those who attend.
More and more researches reinforce the thought that effective and persistent reflections emerge from knowledge; reasonings, if they are proposed in such a way that the learner is personally involved in it. The knowledge of each individual student is the starting point for involving and collaborating in the acquisition of skills and the strengthening of motivations. "Student as a protagonist" means placing his personality in an active complicity, made up of methodologies and listening. The goal is to offer a more personalized training plan in line with the skills and demands of contemporary society. A change and a concept of thought that translates into an evolution, an approach that also takes into account social and emotional aspects as well as intellectual ones. It becomes easy to think that it is necessary to place the student at the center of the educational process: to bet on his potential, to use knowledge as a guide to self-discovery, to start the development of transversal skills. The school must become a study environment that can satisfy cognitive, social and general needs, taking into account the transformations of society.
