On October 22, 2021, in the usual Friday editorial on "Il Giorno", Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative of the S. Freud Private School, describes how important is the strenuous search for a personalized and appropriate study method for each student , in order to facilitate the personal growth of each learner.
The school has a fundamental role in this objective: the teacher who supports the pupil in defining his own study method, establishes a fundamental educational and training dialogue with him, which leads both to motivate themselves, triggering a virtuous circle of learning. If this is not done, the student accumulates resentment and frustration, which lead to him losing motivation.
METHOD OF STUDY AND ORGANIZATION TO GROW
In students who enroll in high school from middle school, it is increasingly noticeable that they lack a fundamental aspect for their study approach: method and organization. We cannot think of “building” without such an important foundation, it is not possible to limit ourselves to saying that every girl and boy will find this path. The truth is that it must be taught (...) It becomes essential that the teacher builds a study method in the classroom for his subject and to study it effectively, it is necessary to start from the assumption that it must be experienced in the classroom, working in a group, where it must arise from a confrontation between the comrades. The search for a study method does not exclude the normal programming of topics (...) The creation of schemes and the distinction of important information constitute a first step towards an effective and conscious study. With a correct study method you learn not only to study but also to think, it becomes a procedural and transversal skill; reworking and assimilation become habits and mental methodologies. A teacher looking for a study method for his students inevitably builds a dialogue, a comparison, an explanation between the differences between studying and learning.
Students should be taught to optimize time and energy. It would be optimal for everyone to have a study method. Everyone must make an effort to find their own and the teacher in the classroom can and must explain that there is no universal one. What adolescents must certainly acquire is the awareness of their abilities and be able to adapt them in an elastic and flexible way to their needs. That is why today's school should use techniques, strategies and approaches to improve and facilitate the learning process. Analyzing by the teacher the strategies to increase the effectiveness of the study organization determines how the student is able to build an important difference in terms of performance as well as emotional well-being. A wrong organization and study method, on the contrary, lead to disappointments that risk reducing or losing motivation to study
