On 2 th July 2021, the newspaper“Il Giorno” publishes the article of the Legal Representative of the Freud School, Dott. Daniele Nappo.
He writes a weekly column “La Riflessione”. This week he is talking about the importance of the School, an educational community, that must ensure a service of psychological support to the students. As a matter of fact, throgh the institution of a psychological help desk, students can find those points of reference that nowadays are absent in our society.
The importance of the psychologist at school
“The school is a context of relationships, a social and emotional field, where the students become aware of their process of growth, but at the same time it's the place where they live their unrest; it's an educational community that in the last years has been responsible for the development of all students according to similar criteria.
Nevertheless, this approach didn't take into consideration the differences in every student: if someone didn't fit in the criteria of this mindset, tthe primary objectives wouldn't be achieved.
Nowadays School has changed: it is organized to offer health and development, by planning and realizing prevention programmes, in accordance with important role played by information.
The structure of the current school includes the presence of a psychologist.
The psychological help-desk supports the students to concentrate, personally, on what they are living, on controllong their emotions, on preventing the phenomenon of bullyism and any addiction: the final target consists in developing their interpersonal relationships.
The psychologist takes also into consideration the teachers' suggestions. Teachers can recognise critical situations and desire a kind of support. On the side of the family it represents a place of comprehension without evaluation. It'a a professional figure on three levels that communicates results and difficulties by sharing aspects to be explored and to be enhanced to face situations of insecurity, of stress,of difficulties and troubles, because the school must play the role of a context of psychological and human development, especially in these times.
The consultant is, therefore, a specialista è quindi una resource to help the students live more serenely as contact person not only from a cultural point of view, but also focusing on education, sense of civic duty and responsibility in supporting the students in their moments of difficulty and trouble.
A School that neglects the human sides connected to the personal growth, to the development of the sudents, to the active participation of the students and to the competences of teachers, provides an incomplete educational offer. It doesn't represent a link between family and society.
The school, with the constitution of a psychological help desk, put an important instrument at the disposal of families, teachers and students in order to operate efficiently and respond to the needs of everybody. Here, psychology can give its relevant contribution to the renewal of the School System by promoting endurance to everybody; the psychologist, therefore, plays an important role at school, now more than ever, in a society that struggles to build its reference pointsè”.
