On Friday 3 June 2022, Dr. Daniele Nappo. Legal representative of the S. Freud Private School of Milan, he exposes his reflections talking about the link between security and freedom, related to the precarious situation of youth discomfort. Young children, although represented in a simple way, have a great complexity of emotions and feelings, which must be carefully analyzed and understood. The rules imposed on them are fundamental to help them in the growth period, but we must be careful to convey them correctly.
“Is there a relationship between security and freedom to distinguish the youth discomfort of modern society? Freud considered the condition of pleasure commanded by the reality principle and argued that social unease was the cause of a security that assigned freedom a marginal role in the search for individual autonomy. Today we witness the pleasure that prevails over reality. Young people are represented in a simple way, thus reducing the complexity of the dynamics involved: on the one hand, those who ask for greater freedom of choice for greater autonomy, on the other, those who emphasize the risks associated with a society that is not very present in the rules. The relationship with one's individual freedom and security are complex and certainly have at their center the economic and social conditions of people. Freud thought that the discomfort of civilization was determined by an excessive order; satisfaction of needs is the most fascinating condition, but adopting it shows that pleasure takes precedence over prudence. So satisfying the impulses means being happy, but on the contrary the children of the third millennium have great suffering when they are denied the possibility of being happy. The current society has changed and individual freedom is considered a right that cannot be prevented, one's desires are satisfied for the benefit of a continuous process of self-realization and its value is the reference for every other quality. Individual freedom, from a complication for traditional societies, has become an essential resource for development, to open up new attitudes and predispositions and to improve human and relational relationships without constraints in habits and with respect to the previous culture. of tradition and every rule are experienced as illegitimate and as a constraint to the realization of one's desires and one's life plans. All Western societies emphasize the value of individual freedom, and of people's capacity for initiative, as a logic of life. Individual freedom has become an uplifting value. Parents fear that a society without rules increases inequalities by increasing precariousness and poverty and a system that does not favor social security, but promotes competition and freedom of initiative not guided by collective values. This creates uncertainty by impoverishing the middle classes and downsizing the preserving role of education in values. The system that is being built is certainly dynamic and technologically advanced, more oriented towards confrontation and sometimes more overwhelming for the environment, for traditional occupations, for coexistence and for life relationships. Our young people need to be trained accordingly. Contemporaneity but at the same time values of cohesion and solidarity. Yes to competition only if positive, to the incentive to improve, but also to rights, values and not to leave anyone behind. "
