IL GIORNO – SCHOOL AND FAMILY TO MAKE THE TEENAGERS GROW UP – DOTT. DANIELE NAPPO
On Friday 18 March 2022, Dr. Daniele Nappo, legal representative of the S. Freud Charter School, expresses his thoughts on the important relationship between school and family in the national newspaper "Il Giorno" to help adolescents mature and grow in the best possible way. In fact, it is precisely in the school environment that students have the opportunity, thanks to the stimuli given by their peers, the context and, especially, the teachers to achieve their self-awareness.
"Adolescence is a critical time: children have to adapt to the physical and psychological, but also social changes typical of this age. In this particular phase of development, two educational agents play a fundamental role: the family and the school. School and family, therefore, should work synergistically for their well-being by having a long view on one goal, their development. In this particular evolutionary phase, the person is involved in processes of self-determination, experience of one's abilities and verification of one's choices. The school, through the teachers and the family, can help children to build self-esteem, autonomy, self-affirmation and experimentation and, again, social participation. The quality of the family climate plays a very important role in the path of growth and construction of identity. Young people, while alternating the search for autonomy and dependence on reference figures, require guidance and encouragement. In other words, fixed points to achieve the goals of the future. The school environment also has a strong impact on self-efficacy and the experiences gained in this area help to shape the certainties regarding one's skills and opportunities. Motivation therefore acquires a decisive role in determining personal commitment and effort. In turn, the school climate represents the limited lasting quality of the internal environment, the value of the emotional network that unites the group with the organization of a company. There is therefore a strong correlation between the quality of the climate, dynamics and relationships matured in the family environment and the perceptions of adolescents regarding their ability to succeed, the estimate of their lives and the evaluation of the school system of reference. The constant presence of supportive and motivating parents gives them a sense of security that turns into real confidence in themselves and in their own possibility of success and success. Finally, the school must regularly promote its own educational practice and enhance the development of a motivation, characterized by interest and curiosity, giving importance to building a positive relationship between teachers and students.
