IL GIORNO – GENDER EQUALITY. EDUCATION FOR GROWTH – DOTT. DANIELE NAPPO

28 aprile 2023

The Legal Representative and founder of the S. Freud Private School, Dr. Daniele Nappo, reveals an important fact: 64 percent of math graduates are women and 63 percent of math teachers in high schools and colleges are female. This is a consequence of decades of macho culture that has led girls in education to make choices that are still very much conditioned by social habits and stereotypical expectations.

The eradication of the collective and cultural preconceptions that still characterize gender relations and the main prevention of gender inequality and violence are the substantive goals that must be put at the heart of education. Educating adolescents for gender equality means implementing a series of daily behaviors, actions, and strategies. Unfortunately, girls make study choices that are still very much conditioned by social customs and stereotypical expectations. This indicates, to their disadvantage, an educational "narrowness" that limits their right to learn skills necessary for access to a constantly changing world of work. Decades of masculinist culture have determianto two significant data: 64 percent of mathematics graduates are women, and in high schools and colleges 63 percent of mathematics teachers are of this sex. Thus, Italian women mathematics graduates predominantly choose to teach. Establishing that a person adhering to any of the two genders is by nature more suited to preparation for a trade is the greatest discrimination based on sex, because it proves to establish that in the practice of a profession, it is not ability, preparation or individual merit that counts. It only matters to be a man or a woman. That women are better nurses, better teachers, better caregivers better parents than a man, and - conversely - that a man is a better engineer, a more capable astronaut, a more competent computer scientist, are not just clichés or ridiculous preconceptions. They are the most obvious form of discrimination based on sex and as such prohibited by our Constitutional Charter. It is absolutely necessary to educate students about gender equality. And this also goes, across the board, through proper education in the management of emotions.
