Dr. Nappo in this article on the one hand points out the incidence of the "pack" on the personality of young adolescents; on the other hand, he emphasizes the educational role that the School can play in allowing each boy to express his uniqueness.
Adolescence is a period of continuous transformation. It is no news that so many girls and boys want to appear consistent with the latest trends in clothing, hairstyles and accessories. Young people all look the same, made from a mold, globally similar in the way they look. The influencer makes suggestions like a boss aesthete, and everyone wants to imitate him in flock and, without having a proper explanation, they pose equally.
It is very difficult for a teenager, suggestible by messages and advertising campaigns, to resist from buying shoes, glasses, cell phone they see trendy. It becomes a strong danger to their identity and self-esteem to want to be accepted, a 'need' that becomes important in the search for a personal identity. One is without a will of one's own: not following fashion is equivalent to not being considered.
Can we think in 2022 that teenagers follow fashions to be essentially considered?
Unfortunately, it seems to be the case: it is the group that makes one change and induces one to be part of a di pack. The pack shapes and builds a recognized identity, so that the boy is not ashamed and does not express his personality that might not be accepted.or well seen. In contrast, in a group of true friends, differences are accepted; indeed, it is often the differences themselves that allow one to get in touch with a person's identity and worth. The distance of the two paths is not trivial: today teenagers for the vast majority have pack hangouts, fashion suppresses originality and personality.
Fashion today is dangerous: it is necessary to be skinny and palestrated, to resort to cosmetic surgery even as a minor to fix 'flaws': fashion creates strong pressures and today's teenagers are constantly at risk of negative influences even at the psychological level losing the ability to remain themselves. Moreover, not having the same means as peers of the same age generates great anxiety and frustration. School can help a teenager regain his or her self-image by accompanying him or her along the way and recognizing, if negative signs arise.
