The Legal Representative and founder of the S. Freud Private School, Dr. Daniele Nappo highlights a plague that haunts schools and especially brings discredit on charter schools: diploma mills.
Various cases of investigations into the scourge of diplomacy have caused much debate in recent weeks. It cannot be otherwise, although, I would like to say it is a phenomenon that has been going on for many years and that no one, so far, has been able or willing to evidently defeat. At least 10 thousand recent graduates of the Final State Exam in 2023 have acquired a degree, which has legal value, in ways that are suspicious, to say the least. More than a hundred business presentations are appearing on search engines and more and more clients are prepared to travel hundreds of miles to participate, in many cases in the presence of mixed committees, in a staging with a sure result. What is perhaps still making an uproar is the data, so impressive, that the surveys have brought to light; the figure is significant perhaps also because of a tightening of the state exam, after the deliberations conditioned on the extraordinary remedies that followed the pandemic. Let's not hide behind a finger, there is a system that is not at all transparent unfortunately with lots of permits and concessions within the public education sector, and no one has the strength to do the checks. These are not a few isolated cases. And it's a real market for degrees, and it's a boulder on the credibility of the Italian school and especially on the peer school. The turnover is around 50 million euros a year. It is reductive and wrong to consider the phenomenon an example of Southern malpractice based on the fact that the institutions involved are predominantly Southern. Candidates for a "conciliatory" Maturity come down to the South from all over Italy. By the way, the exam, which every year scandalizes for its low number of failures, does not explain why there are so many people willing to take on not inconsiderable expenses to pass it with a few shortcuts. Research work needs to be done to unhinge this system.
