Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative as well as founder of the S. Freud Private School, draws attention to depression, a malaise that is increasingly rampant among the very young. The role of the school, and of teachers, must be to teach children that in order to achieve what you want you need commitment and to accept defeats and failures.
A less bureaucratic school with the charisma of knowledge is what teenagers need to help them feel more peaceful and less listless. Unfortunately, between the ages of 13 and 19, depression is increasingly common, a malaise that affects one in five teenagers. These are alarming figures. Depression is an illness to be taken seriously: it also makes the body sick, studies show, even to the point of self-harm in the most severe cases. Schools must raise their young people, in serene environments, must help them accept defeat and failure and strive for what they want. A young person must not be allowed to fall into depression because of a bad grade. The teacher has an obligation to encourage the relationship. Therefore, the school must counter the attitude of depression in its students by limiting through the deliberations of the Teachers' Colleges formal work instead of substantive work. Basically, it must be transformed into a place where people do not study just to look good or to be gratified by their "evidence" with good grades. The school is an educating community: there should not be the sole obligation, for both teachers and students, to plan, to prove they have done, to verify or question (...). It must be an open environment where teachers must take pleasure in passing on to young people their passion for the knowledge they have acquired, for the usefulness with regard to the human well-being of the content explained, where they first must feel esteemed and respected as well as valued for the function they perform. And yet where they invest because they love to teach. Perhaps what is needed is a school a little freer from the oppressive context of society that proposes a time to be spent in classrooms that is the joy of the beautiful, the deepening of the true and the just. Perhaps, I repeat in other words, it would be good to return to school as its etymological meaning.
