On 11 June 2021, the newspaper "Il Giorno" shared the reflections of Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative of the S. Freud School of Milan, on the introduction by the Ministry of Education of the Student's curriculum, for candidates for the final state exam.
It seems that learning today must be aimed at pure competition.
In a complicated year, to say the least, this introduction transforms the school into a promoter of a run-up to grab titles upon titles, certifications upon certifications.
THE STUDENT'S CURRICULUM DEVALUES THE SCHOOL
A new document, attached to the degree certificate, becomes effective. It will contain data, activities and projects that student confirm to have carried out in their last three school years.
Information will be at disposal of the Examination Committee as further assessments elements. What's its purpose? And then just this year? These are only some of the first questions.
Most students reject this document, considering it useless and inappropriate.
Schools have received a ministerial note on 2 April. It has been strongly required to process this iter. The provision is arrived late and this need hasn't been clarified the reason of the introduction of such important news, especially in these difficult last years at school and moreover just two months before the Final State Exam.
It's obvious that the major part of the students haven't experienced any extracurricular activity because of the Covid pandemic. This resolution is totally incoherent and many schools agree that this represents a further burdening of the organisational and administrative actions. The curriculum should be used to students as an introduction to the Examination Committee in order to have more school information about students. Nevertheless, this school year, there are Internal Examiners again, so they have enough information about the school profiles of their students.
Anyway, 60% of students- on the basis of a survey with multiple questions- considers this document as selective, because in this way all students aren't at the same level. More than 30% of them doesn't know how it works and 15% isn't aware of its existence yet. Doubts persist. 69% of considers this news as not correct in the times and in its procedures and 32% is aware of its late arrival and finally 35% is of the opinion that the Degree Final Mark must only focus on the school performance; only 23% of students agrees that extraschool activities can be appreciated and 27% of them considers it as a functional tool. The school responsibility consists in giving preparation and in forming citizens of the future, but today it seems that is asking more and more, instead of focussing on human resources: a company wants to know whst it is buying and the nature of its investments.
Nowadays, it seems that the learning process is only addressed to a common form of competition.
In such a complicated and difficult school year, the introduction of this document turns the school into a race of gaining more and more titles, of achieving more and more certificates?
Is this the school's real task?
