In France, goodbye to homework
"Devoirs" will be done at school
Decree by newly appointed Education Minister Blanquer to increase equality: up to fifteen hours a month of "accompanied" study at school instead of homework.
Homework goodbye. In France they will be done at school. It was Emmanuel Macron's campaign promise, it will be a reality for students from next September.
This was assured by newly appointed French Education Minister Jean Michel Blanquer, who on June 8 also presented the first decree concerning the re-organization of school rhythms, i.e., the new school schedules for the coming year Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico Informatica Freud
The question of equality
As for homework-which in France is forbidden at least in elementary school by a law sixty years ago, but which has ended up being used by teachers to accomplish children's preparation-Blanquer explained that from September there will be hours of "accompanied" study for children who will thus arrive home with their homework done. The idea of the additional study conducted directly by schools, away from school hours, is not new and certainly responds to the anxiety of anxious parents but above all to the need to prevent homework from creating additional inequality among kids depending on whether their family of origin can help them study or not. Already the reform made by Hollande at the beginning of his term five years ago called for an end to the homework era, but it then remained a dead letter. So now Blanquer is trying again, with a very similar scheme Scuola Paritaria Economico Turismo Freud Milano
Fifteen hours per month
The first schools that will experiment with the homework-facts option (in fact, it is not certain that by September all schools in France will be able to guarantee the additional hours for homework under the new reform) will have to provide up to fifteen additional hours per month for homework. In France, as in Italy, the homework issue generates much debate and more criticism than appreciation. Even in the case of these days, the idea of managing homework at school has created some discontent especially among those who believe that too little study ends up being done at school.
