TELECOMMUNICATIONS

CLASS III

PURPOSE

To understand the operation of electrical networks under direct and alternating current based on the physical principles and laws governing them.
Acquire the principles of Boolean Algebra and apply them to the most important devices in digital electronics.
Characterize and represent electrical signals in the time and frequency domains.
Study the characteristics and operation of telecommunications systems.

GOALS
Acquire the basic conceptual and lexical elements for understanding technical texts in Italian and English, relating to electrical and electronic devices for telecommunications.
Analyze simple electrical circuits and calculate their specific quantities (voltage, current and power) using the laws and theorems of electrical networks.
Analyze a simple combinatorial and sequential digital circuit and know the main digital components.
Characterize, through digital symbology, simple electrical circuits in sinusoidal regime and calculate the main electrical quantities.
Represent signals, determine their significant parameters and understand the meaning of a signal spectrum.
Interpret a block diagram of a telecommunications system.

MAIN TOPICS COVERED
DC and AC electrical circuit theory
Digital electronics, analysis of combinatorial and sequential networks
Characterization of signals in the time and frequency domains
Introduction to telecommunication systems

CLASS IV

PURPOSE.

Understand the operation of major analog electronic components and the telecommunications circuits and systems they implement.
Understand the principles of digitization of analog signals and their application in digital transmission systems.
Acquire the techniques of transmitting signals in the shifted band and the methods and related equipment for modulation.
Analyze telecommunications networks and the most common modes of operation: the telephone network and packet transmission of signals.

OBJECTIVES
Acquire the basic conceptual and lexical elements for understanding technical texts in Italian and English, relating to analog electronics and circuits for telecommunications.
Acquire the fundamentals of analog telecommunication techniques.
Learn the methodology of digitizing signals and their transmission, applying the concepts to simple communication systems.
Critically analyze schematics for communication equipment in relation to stated technical specifications.
