(ANSA) - MILAN, APRIL 6 - Metaverso in school education is becoming a reality. More than 1,150 students, that is, all of them, from high schools in a Milanese institute - in the four branches of high school humanities and science, and technical economic tourism and information technology - will use Metaverse technologies and modalities in the next school year, 2024-2025. In all classes and subjects, crosswise, and between two and four hours a day. It is an experimental project that is being implemented at the Freud Equal Institute in Milan, which is considered "among the most extensive in Italy," and has already been partially anticipated this year in some fifth-grade classes of the computer technician. It is an approach based on the so-called immersive classroom, that is, a 'virtual' place equipped with interactive technological procedures that allow the class to act directly with the proposed content. Teachers and students will be able to find and select immersive modules, in a Library, for teaching activity in a wide range of topics through the use of immersive lectures, 360° panoramas, 360° videos, 3D models to be reworked with the addition of multimedia content. A multimedia didactics inserted in the perspective of Artificial Intelligence.
Physical environments for lecturing "could be transformed into open places where people work together, harnessing the potential of shared knowledge," and thus "learning through these tools will revolutionize traditional teaching." Students will increasingly move into virtual environments to simulate space and time travel. And through virtual reality viewers they will move across different timelines, and study all events through a playful, experiential and immersive mode.
"The teaching and learning process within the educational context nowadays cannot do without resorting to the oriented use of digital tools and information resources that are part of Information and Communication Technologies, Tic," emphasizes the director of the Freud Institute, Daniele Nappo. "Learning is thus more engaging and participatory. It is therefore totally aligned with the criteria of the School 4.0 Plan where precisely the use of Metaverse is envisaged in the school environment."
