Dr. Daniele Nappo, Legal Representative as well as Founder of the S. Freud Private School, in today's article highlights how schools are losing their monopoly on cultural education.
For most adolescents, school represents a context of life, a sphere of relationships, a useful place for formative processes, and a significant value for the present and the future. To better give an assessment, however, one must take into account a set of socio-cultural elements that also have a robust pedagogical relevance. The current school system experiences a continuous change of functions (...) Unfortunately, to this change in the roles attributed to it, the school has not achieved a real change in the organizational and curricular structure, losing in fact the monopoly of cultural education. We know well that in this historical period young people do not need the school experience to access information, but instead have an increasing need to meet adults who, through school, enable them to give unity to the portions of knowledge found or received and who promote in them a critical sense and an aptitude for learning (...)The educational world, fortunately, is being characterized by an increasing number of professional figures, and this is an asset because it presents more human resources to respond to increasingly diverse needs. Perhaps it would be necessary for schools to take a further step forward to become a compensatory educational environment for the starting differences of individual learners, without the organizational rigidity that does not allow them to respond adequately to the demands of personalization. Most students recognize the school's function of increasing and enhancing personal knowledge and skills. However, young people-and this is a serious weakness-are negative in thinking about how school works toward the world of work.
