Parents "clearing snow - High School

6 marzo 2016

The British christen them "snowplow parents." For what reason? "They clean up everything in front of their children so that nothing can go wrong for them and their self-esteem can loom."

It happens in London, at St. Paul's boarding school for girls, where principal Clarissa Farr, tells The Times, every day they run into mothers and fathers who are victims of "convulsive anxiety that makes them reject the idea that their little ones might come second."

Which results in "over-protected children unable to cope with failure."

It also happens in Italy; where legions of parents come to teachers and principals and "exculpate, threaten, lie even in order to protect their beloved little children from a sanction." It happens in kindergarten and goes on through high school.

Because "school is the enemy." The attitude of preventing and avoiding any difficulties for children has become pathological: fathers and mothers are completely incompetent to deal with their children's failures, they don't want to be there because they don't know how to get out of it." It is as if they say, "You don't create problems for my child because you create them for me." And then, "the easiest solution is to always say yes, to pave the way: 'non-parenting parents' who give up educating their children a priori by trying to simplify everything for them."

And the blame for every failure, it is always placed on the school, so we get to appeals to the Tar for failures and bad grades." It is necessary "to educate children to confront reality, help them in the uphill, challenging and difficult roads, but not to replace them."

Parents, , are apprehensive and transmit great fragility to their children. The only way is to talk to them: be points of reference, but let them make mistakes, only then will they grow up empowered." But there is also the "frantic anxiety" to make children excel at any cost, the "pursuit of success" with the idea that those who make mistakes are failures: "It creates so much unhappiness among children you transmit expectations and stereotypes to direct them by giving an idea of competitiveness instead of self-fulfillment.

Perhaps also because of the economic crisis - parents are more anxious about the future and take the place of their children, as if they say, 'I choose for you' and prepare paths for them to follow." So what, "Set them free - leaving your child's life to him, including failures and mistakes."
