Distance Learning - DAD - 24 February 2020 - 8 June 2020

The organizational arrangements of "distance education" implemented by the School starting from February 24, 2020, corresponding to the suspension of in-person teaching activities due to the health emergency for COVID-19 are summarized.

During the period of suspension of classes,  'S. Freud School ' - after appropriate structuring and collegial approval of organizational arrangements - adopted the following strategies for the continuation of educational activities:

(a) Conducting the annual programming in 'video lecture' as a substitute for the frontal lecture.  More than 5,000 video lessons were produced. It is emphasized that the video lesson was much more effective than a streaming lesson both because, once downloaded, it can be enjoyed independently at any time of the day and because it is not subject to any personal connection difficulties of each student. Teachers have completed - by the end of the school year - 100 percent of the annual modular program in video lessons, including in-depth examinations of curricular topics.

b) As of March 23, 2020, a four-hour daily "live" school schedule was activated, with structured activities on the Weschool and Microsoft Teams digital platforms, with which students took tests and/or exercises (on Weschool), as well as oral questions on Microsoft Teams. Participation in these activities was mandatory.

(c) As of Monday, March 30, remedial classes, some individual courses and some hours of educational assistance were re-scheduled. All classes began at 8 a.m. in order to encourage, in students, a resumption of the "school habits" that best punctuated the day at home. As of Monday, April 6, the two intervals that were in place with the canonical class schedule (10:50-11:05 a.m. and 12:55-1:05 p.m.) were reinstated in order to allow greater concentration and attention in learning, following the request received from the student component, at the Student Representative Meeting on March 31, 2020.

d) Introduction of the figure of the digital animator (carried out by the physical education teachers), with the aim of assisting students to reflect and share their considerations on current events and the particular historical moment that we are all living, as well as to stimulate, in pupils, the concrete active involvement in teaching, encouraging interaction and socialization.

e) Video conferences held by the Institute's Legal Representative, Dr. Daniele Nappo, on the dates of Saturday, March 14, 21 and 28, 2020, in order to illustrate and clarify as best as possible the strategies implemented by the School about current distance education. The video conferences were also an opportunity for students, parents and faculty to feel the sense of belonging and presence of the Institute even at this contingent time.

f) Organization of 'virtual' educational outings - cinema, theater and museums - as an opportunity for cultural enrichment and strengthening of "sharing" among students, a pretext for rapprochement and socialization even at a distance.

g) Creation of a photo gallery and blog to collect the emotions and thoughts of students, their parents and teachers, as a "treasure chest of memories" to be "reopened" tomorrow, in a commemorative spirit.

h) Re-establishment of the Psychological Listening Desk, held via Skype, on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m., by Dr. Naomi Aceto, Institute psychologist, also author of the "survival manual" published on the Electronic Register, a small aid to better cope with the management of emotions at this difficult time in our lives.

i) Courtesy calls made to all students with special educational needs, made by the Principal and his vicar, to learn about any difficulties encountered in the approach to digital didactics and to manifest the closeness of the School and the centrality of each individual pupil in the school project.

l) "Remote" class assemblies, with teachers, students and parents, for coordination and sharing of achievements.
